Who is the coolest: Davis or Sacramento?

Sacramento and Davis advance to finalist round of Cool California Challenge

The region’s competitive streak reached new heights last month as Sacramento and Davis battled it out for the title of “Coolest California City” in the Cool California Challenge, a statewide city challenge to reduce carbon emissions.

Davis initially won the title in June after more than 250 households signed up for the challenge. Sacramento came in second place. Both cities received a cash prize of $10,000.

In late June Sacramento started catching up to Davis, and gaining lots of media coverage, after kicking off the Cut Your Cubes campaign and unveiling a 30-foot square cube made of scaffolding covered with black mesh. The cube represents 1/40th of the volume of greenhouse gases generated in one year by a typical four-person household from vehicle emissions, household energy and water use.
