light railThe Greenwise Regional Action Plan introduces the principles of the “20-minute neighborhood”

A “20-minute neighborhood” is a complete, mixed-use community where residents can easily walk or bike 20 minutes or less to meet most of their basic daily needs.

A number of existing initiatives in the Sacramento region support the “20-minute” neighborhood concept. Projects directed by the Sacramento Area Council of Governments, including the successful Sacramento Region Blueprint, compliance with Senate Bill 375, and the Sustainable Communities Initiative, are all examples of recent efforts to boost transit-oriented development in the region.

Local governments throughout the region will be encouraged to update General Plans and zoning codes to remove barriers to sustainable development and look at infill areas to create “20-minute neighborhoods.”
