Interns and fellows: a summer with Greenwise
By Liz Salmi
Like many small nonprofit organizations, Greenwise Joint Venture has a lot of work to do and a small staff to make it happen.
That’s why we’re excited to host a number of fantastic summer fellows and interns. These young leaders are helping Greenwise take action on our signature projects.
Our 2012 summer fellows and interns come to us from around the country and across the world, and we are lucky to have them sharing their talents with us this year.
Say hello to…
Daina Paulikas, Summer Fellow, Office of Mayor Kevin Johnson
Daina Paulikas is leading the effort to establish a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) to fund Green School Retrofits. She is excited to leverage her MBA skills and management expertise in the Defense sector to create win-wins between public funders and school improvement projects.
Daina is halfway through the Master of Business Administration program at Harvard Business School, where she volunteered with Sustainable Endowments Institute–a green school revolving fund nonprofit. Prior to business school, Daina worked as an engineer and product manager building laser weapons and army systems at Northrop Grumman. She also founded a tech startup and wrote real-time order routing software for derivatives trading.
Daina holds a Bachelor of Science in physics from the California Institute of Technology. When she’s not building lasers, Daina loves being adventurous and outdoorsy, playing sports, traveling, and watching copious amounts of television.
Tre’von Lyle, Intern, Office of Mayor Kevin Johnson
Tre’von Lyle is interning with the Office of Mayor Kevin Johnson and Greenwise Joint Venture. His projects include the establishment of a database for the green school retrofits project, assisting with communications and social media, and acting as an ambassador for the Edible Schoolyard project.
Tre’von is a student at New York University where he studies drama and anthropology. He credits Sacramento High School as his motivation to pursue higher education. Tre’von practices Tae Kwon Doe, Aikido and Capoeira, is a volunteer with Kids First, and loves anything involving superpowers.
Rosa Johnson, Intern
Rosa Johnson is an environmental studies and political science student at Northeastern University. During her internship with Greenwise Joint Venture she’ll be tracking Sacramento’s progress for President Obama’s Better Buildings Challenge.
Prior to Greenwise, Rosa participated in Northeastern University’s prestigious cooperative education program where she interned with O’Neill Sea Odyssey—a nonprofit organization providing oceanic field trips for low-income elementary schools, focusing on teaching marine preservation and ecology.
After college Rosa plans to sail and scuba “everywhere and anywhere.” When she’s not riding her bike around midtown Sacramento, Rosa spends her time hiking, backpacking and camping.
Yilan Hu, Intern
Yilan Hu is an international student from Chongqing, China, who is studying economics at UC Davis. Her internship with Greenwise Joint Venture exposes Yilan to marketing, public relations and American culture.
When she isn’t going to school or working with Greenwise, Yilan enjoys Chinese calligraphy, piano and sports.
